The short tenure of Teri Kaczinski as Madison County Auditor will come to an end in early July. Her 6-month term was chaotic, filled with issues and problems in the office. Many blamed her. In her resignation letter, Kaczinski blamed just about everybody but herself. Wherever you stand on this issue, most can agree that she did eventually do the right thing by resigning.

As of last Thursday, there were four candidates for the Auditor position that are scheduled to be interviewed by the Board of Supervisors. These are open interviews that will be held at the Courthouse Annex.

Monday, June 30 at 1:30 p.m. – Doreena Warren

Monday, June 30 at 3:00 p.m. – Matthew Schwarz

Tuesday, July 1 at 9:30 a.m. – Randyl Taber

Tuesday, July 1 at 10:30 a.m. – Michele Brant

The ball is now firmly in the court of the all-Republican Board of Supervisors. They need to do the right thing, too. The pressure is on them not to make a political appointment, but to pick the best person for the job.

I’m a long-time Republican. My mom was a Republican elected official in our county and my parents hosted GOP fundraisers at our house. While I still vote mostly Republican, I don’t need a ‘conservative movement’ in county government. For our Auditor candidates, I am less concerned about their political ideology than I am about their experience, qualifications, and integrity. I hope the Board is, too.
